According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the crash occurred around 10:25 p.m. near exit 69, when the driver of a vehicle entered the eastbound lanes of I-82 from the on-ramp and struck Martinez, who was on the roadway shoulder. Despite emergency response efforts, Martinez died at the scene from the severity of his injuries.

This fatal crash underscores ongoing concerns about impaired driving on Washington’s highways. State officials continue to warn that alcohol and drug use are leading causes of deadly crashes, stressing that even a single impaired decision can have irreversible consequences.
The loss of Jorge Estrada Martinez has left family, friends, and community members grieving, while also serving as a stark reminder of the dangers pedestrians face on roadways. WSP is urging drivers to make responsible choices, such as using designated drivers, rideshare services, or public transportation to prevent tragedies like this one.
