ASH, N.C. — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, September 5, on Vereen Road in Ash.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a 20-year-old male victim who had been fatally wounded. Despite immediate emergency response, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of family.
Following an initial investigation and interviews with witnesses, detectives identified the suspect as Jonathon Jayden Babson-Hill, born July 3, 2004. Babson-Hill is wanted in connection with this homicide.
The Sheriff’s Office has issued a strong warning to the community: Babson-Hill should be considered armed and dangerous. Residents are urged not to approach him under any circumstances. Instead, anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to immediately call Detective Hill at 910-253-2777 or dial 911.
Authorities stressed the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in safely locating and apprehending the suspect. “We are asking for the public’s assistance to bring this individual into custody without further harm,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available. Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office officials are urging patience while detectives continue gathering evidence and pursuing leads in this active case.
