DECATUR, Ill. — A deadly shooting late on Labor Day has left the Decatur community grieving the loss of Tracy Cunningham, 55, and police searching for answers.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of North Church Street at 11:49 p.m. Monday after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they located Cunningham suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency crews worked quickly to provide aid, and he was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, Cunningham did not survive his injuries.
The department’s Criminal Investigations Division immediately began processing the scene, collecting evidence, and speaking with potential witnesses. Officers also canvassed the surrounding neighborhood in search of surveillance footage or information that might lead to the suspect. At this time, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not shared details about possible motives.
