Teen Identified in Fatal Canyon Country Crash

Authorities have identified the teenager killed in a fatal collision Thursday afternoon in Canyon Country. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the victim as 18-year-old Sinai Barraza.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:33 p.m. on the 17000 block of West Sierra Highway. According to investigators, Barraza was driving a Toyota sedan southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, her vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes. An air-conditioning van traveling northbound collided with her car head-on.

Barraza, who was the sole occupant of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as stable, officials said.

Detective Charlie Upchurch of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station noted that, as of now, there are no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The incident has been classified as an accident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The community now mourns the sudden loss of Sinai Barraza, whose life was tragically cut short.
