Hopewell Shooting: Man Killed, Suspect Arrested

HOPEWELL, Va. — Police responded Friday, September 5, 2025, at 8:39 p.m. to the area of Arlington Road and Raleigh Street after reports of an unresponsive male. Officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 34-year-old Travis Lamont Coleman of Hopewell.

The following day, authorities arrested 42-year-old Johnnie Terrell McGhee, formerly of Richmond, VA. McGhee faces charges including Second-Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Shooting in a Public Place Resulting in Injury.

Hopewell Police Chief Gregory Taylor commended the quick actions of the Patrol Division and Investigators, along with community support, in the rapid apprehension of the suspect.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to gather additional details surrounding the incident.
