Two Arrested After Silver Spring Park Shooting Leaves Teen Dead, One Critically Injured

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Montgomery County Police say two men are in custody following a fatal shooting Friday night at Long Branch Local Park on Langley Drive.

When officers arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, identified as 17-year-old Charly Blayner Vail Lucas of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 21-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators believe the shooting may be connected to another homicide that occurred on August 18, which claimed the life of 17-year-old Jaril Verde Murillo on University Boulevard East. Detectives established the link after a SWAT-assisted search of the Silver Spring residence of 20-year-old Jhony Steve Rosales Castillo uncovered firearms and other evidence.

Rosales Castillo and 18-year-old Juan Carlos Gutierrez-Hernandez were taken into custody in connection with the shootings. Both face multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder of a minor and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities said a bond hearing is scheduled for Monday. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
