Louisiana Man Dies After High-Speed Corvette Crash on US 61

SORRENTO, La. — A high-speed crash on U.S. Highway 61 in Ascension Parish claimed the life of 59-year-old Jeffery Luquette of St. Amant Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Louisiana State Police reported that Luquette was driving his 2022 Chevrolet Corvette northbound just after 3:00 p.m. on September 6 when he struck the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe near Pond Road. The impact caused the Corvette to leave the roadway and collide with a tree.

Troop A investigators determined that Luquette was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. Despite wearing a seatbelt, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tahoe driver, also properly restrained, sustained minor injuries.

Police do not suspect impairment as a factor, but standard toxicology samples were collected from Luquette and will be submitted for laboratory analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
