ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Police have identified 32-year-old Tamara Eldridge as the victim of a deadly crash that occurred Monday afternoon in west Asheville, leaving her family and community in mourning.
The collision happened just after 1 p.m. in the 1500 block of Patton Avenue. Investigators say a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by 35-year-old Adam Christopher Kane, crossed the center line and struck a 2004 Lexus RX330 SUV head-on. Moments later, a 2012 Volvo S60 sedan collided with the back of the Lexus, worsening the severity of the crash.
Eldridge, who was a passenger in the back seat of the Lexus, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Mission Hospital. Despite efforts by emergency personnel, she later died from her injuries. Authorities confirmed her death later that day.
Kane, who sustained only minor injuries, was determined to be responsible for causing the wreck. He was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving left of center, expired vehicle registration, and failure to wear a seat belt. He was later booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility and released on a $6,000 bond. Police say additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
Investigators are reviewing roadway conditions, vehicle data, and other factors to determine why Kane’s vehicle crossed the center line. The Asheville Police Department is urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at (828) 252-1110.
For Eldridge’s loved ones, the loss has been devastating. At only 32 years old, her life was cut tragically short in what should have been a routine drive. Friends and community members have expressed their condolences, remembering her as a vibrant young woman whose presence will be deeply missed.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of safe driving practices, reminding motorists that alertness and adherence to traffic laws are crucial in preventing tragedies like this one.
