James C. Sellars, 33, Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Old Hickory Boulevard

NASHVILLE, Tenn — Metro Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash Tuesday on Old Hickory Boulevard as 33-year-old James C. Sellars.

According to investigators, Sellars was stopped in the southbound lanes at a red light when a silver Mercedes SUV, described as a smaller model, struck his motorcycle from behind. The impact was devastating, and despite the efforts of first responders, Sellars died at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes did not stop, continuing southbound after the collision. Police reported the SUV has front-end damage and is missing its front bumper cover, details they believe are crucial in locating the vehicle and its driver.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage, traffic cameras, and eyewitness accounts to track down the suspect. Investigators also emphasized the importance of community assistance, urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward if their tips lead to an arrest or charges.

Sellars’ death has underscored the vulnerabilities motorcyclists face on busy roads, particularly when other drivers fail to maintain safe distances or act recklessly. Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, motorcyclists have little protection in collisions, making even minor crashes potentially fatal.

For Sellars’ family and friends, the loss is sudden and devastating. Loved ones are now left to grieve as Metro Police continue their search for the driver responsible.

Authorities stressed that public cooperation can be vital in resolving cases like this, bringing justice to victims and closure to families. They hope that with continued investigative work and assistance from the community, the person behind the wheel will soon be held accountable.
