COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The victim of a fatal traffic crash on East Platte Avenue has been identified as 22-year-old Jessenya Gaytan.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded around 2:15 a.m. on August 24 after a vehicle traveling eastbound on Platte Avenue left the south side of the roadway and struck a tree. Gaytan was found inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the car were hospitalized with serious injuries. Police reported that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.
This incident marks the 38th traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 37 fatalities, and in the past 12 months, the city has recorded a total of 50 traffic-related deaths.
