ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa — The South Central Calhoun Community School District has confirmed the death of Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore at SCC High School, following a fatal car accident.
In a letter posted on Sept. 10, 2025, Superintendent Brad Anderson and High School Principal Sara Pibal shared the tragic news with the community.
“This morning the District was notified that one of our very own SCC High School students, Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore, lost his life in a fatal car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student’s family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this tremendous personal loss,” the statement read.
While the Iowa State Patrol has not yet released details about the crash, the district has mobilized support services to help students, staff, and families. Members of the SCC Crisis Response Team, Heartland AEA professionals, pastors, and school staff are on-site at the high school to provide counseling, comfort, and reassurance. Students are also being allowed to contact their families directly if needed.
The district encouraged families to reach out for additional support, providing contact numbers for the high school and district office. “Should students or parents need additional assistance please call the High School at 712-464-7211 or the District Office at 712-297-7341 during school hours,” the letter stated.
As the school community mourns, all Homecoming activities scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 10, have been postponed.
This heartbreaking loss has deeply affected the South Central Calhoun district, with many remembering Ogden as a young life gone too soon. More information will be released as the investigation into the crash continues.
