Suspect in Double Homicide Dies by Suicide After Multi-County Police Chase Ends in Beaumont
Beaumont, TX – May 31, 2025 — A deadly overnight pursuit that stretched across multiple counties ended in tragedy on Interstate 10 near College Street in Beaumont, where the suspect, 38-year-old Jonathan Findley of Pasadena, Texas, took his own life following a high-speed standoff with law enforcement.
The incident began late Friday night when authorities launched a pursuit of Findley, who was wanted in connection with a double homicide that occurred earlier that evening on Kirkpatrick Road in the Gilchrist area of Galveston County. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Eric Dopp and his 24-year-old daughter, Wisdom Hall. Officials believe Findley fled the crime scene shortly after the killings, prompting a multi-agency manhunt that eventually led to the chase.
The pursuit, involving units from Chambers County and surrounding jurisdictions, came to a dramatic end in Beaumont when Findley’s vehicle was cornered on the interstate. Negotiators attempted to engage the suspect, but before a peaceful resolution could be reached, Findley reportedly died by suicide inside his vehicle.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is leading the homicide investigation, while Texas DPS and the Beaumont Police Department are assisting with the follow-up on the chase and final standoff.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding a possible motive behind the killings, and the investigation remains ongoing. Loved ones of Eric Dopp and Wisdom Hall are now left mourning an unthinkable loss as the community reels from the violent sequence of events.
