FORT MEADE, Fla – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning in Fort Meade. Deputies confirmed that 23-year-old Samuel Maisonet, of Sebring, was killed when his car left the roadway and overturned.
Investigators believe the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. as Maisonet was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound on ABC Road. The vehicle veered off the road, struck a ground anchor wire for a power pole, and rolled before coming to rest in a nearby pasture. Maisonet was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The wreck caused a power outage in the area. Around 4:40 a.m., Duke Energy workers responding to the outage discovered the crashed vehicle and contacted authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office said that speed may have been a factor in the crash, citing the extent of vehicle damage, roadway markings, and the distance the car traveled after impact.
No other vehicles were involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
