ERIE, Pa. – Authorities have identified the man killed in a crash on Upper Peach Street Thursday night as 46-year-old James Fellows of Erie.

Pennsylvania State Police say the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of Peach Street. Investigators reported that Fellows was riding his e-bike southbound on the northbound shoulder when he was struck by an SUV.

According to police, traffic ahead of the SUV began to slow, and the driver swerved onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision. The SUV’s front right bumper struck Fellows, causing critical injuries.

Fellows was transported to UPMC Hamot, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver was cited for driving on the shoulder, but no charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.

First responders were on scene for more than four hours, and the roadway was closed between Robison and Dorn Roads during the investigation.
