INDIO, Calif. — A tragic accident claimed the life of 62-year-old John Keogh after he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a freeway on-ramp in north Indio on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around noon near Monroe Street, where Keogh attempted to cross the southbound Interstate 10 on-ramp on foot. A GMC Sierra, turning onto the ramp from Monroe Street, struck Keogh with its left front side. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office publicly identified the victim on Sunday. CHP Officer David Torres confirmed that investigators are reviewing the circumstances leading up to the collision, including whether the driver’s actions warrant criminal charges. No arrests have been made at this time.
Authorities noted that this marks the second pedestrian fatality in the Coachella Valley within 24 hours. On Friday evening, another man was struck and killed while using a crosswalk on Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate both incidents as officials urge drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant on busy roadways.
