LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the identity of the man killed in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday night in Lexington County.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Nick Pye, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Old Orangeburg Road near Chestnut Street. Investigators say a 2001 Ford sedan was traveling west when it veered off the right side of the road and struck a ditch.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim as 33-year-old Melvin Z. Etsell of Lexington. Officials confirmed that Etsell was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol, along with the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
