Authorities have identified Pat Howard as the third victim killed in the devastating mass shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Howard’s family remembered him as a devoted husband, uncle, and friend whose life reflected kindness, wit, and an enduring love for family.
“Uncle Pat was so many things. He was smart, kind, funny, serious, and endlessly curious. He loved his family deeply,” relatives shared in a tribute. “To spend your life surrounded by the love and laughter of Aunt Kitty and all the Howard kids—that’s a life well spent.”
Loved ones recalled his warm presence at family gatherings, where his raised brows and knowing smile often preceded a witty remark or a nugget of wisdom. “In my mind, I see him mid-conversation,” one family member said. “Whatever it was, I wanted to be around that table.”
Relatives have launched a fundraiser to help Howard’s wife, Kitty, with funeral and burial costs. They encouraged the community to honor his legacy with kindness: “If you can’t donate, do something nice for your neighbor, tell someone you love them, and be the person you want your neighbor to be.”
The tragedy claimed four lives in total, left eight others injured, and destroyed the church building after the attacker set it ablaze. Federal and local agencies continue to investigate the incident.
