MONROE TOWNSHIP, Pa. – A tragic accident has claimed the lives of a Clarion couple following a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on State Route 68 in Monroe Township.
According to Clarion County Coroner Dan Shingledecker, Michael Brumbaugh Sr., 64, was pronounced dead at Clarion Hospital after suffering fatal blunt force injuries in the crash. His wife, Trudy Brumbaugh, 62, was also pronounced deceased at another medical facility shortly after the accident.
The collision, which involved an SUV and a sedan, occurred around 3:09 p.m. near the Aldi grocery store. Emergency responders, including Clarion Fire & Hose Co. No. 1, Clarion Hospital EMS, Southern Clarion County Ambulance Service, and state police, rushed to the scene. Three medical helicopters were dispatched, while a fourth was placed on standby, with a landing zone established in the Clarion Mall parking lot.
Two additional individuals were injured in the crash; their conditions have not been released as of Wednesday morning.
State Route 68 was closed for several hours while Pennsylvania State Police conducted a detailed accident reconstruction. The roadway has since reopened, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Officials are expected to release further details as the inquiry continues into the heartbreaking crash that has left the Clarion community mourning.
