ROCKY TOP, Tenn — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a tragic train accident last week near the Campbell County line as 33-year-old Candace N. Barnett of Caryville.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 10 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025, to reports of a pedestrian struck by a train in the area of Mountain Side Lane and Ponderosa Lane, just outside Rocky Top, behind the Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after deputies and confirmed that Barnett had died at the scene from her injuries. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were called to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities confirmed that Barnett was a mother of four. Her death has left family, friends, and the Caryville community heartbroken. Neighbors described her as a loving and devoted mother whose life revolved around her children.
As the investigation continues, officials have not released additional details about the events leading up to the accident. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office expressed its condolences to the family and thanked responding agencies for their assistance.
