Clark University Mourns the Loss of Beloved Professor Amy Richter
WORCESTER, Mass. — The Clark University community is mourning the profound loss of Professor Amy Richter, a beloved educator, historian, and chair of the History Department, who passed away on June 2, 2025, following a brief illness. Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of colleagues, students, and friends who were touched by her intellect, warmth, and tireless dedication.
For more than 25 years, Professor Richter was a pillar of the Clark community. Known for her dynamic teaching and scholarly passion, she inspired generations of students to engage deeply with history, critical inquiry, and social justice. Her work explored the intersections of domestic life, gender, and urban history, and she was widely respected both within and beyond the academic community.
“Professor Richter was the heart of our department,” said a fellow faculty member. “She brought humanity, grace, and brilliance to everything she did—from the classroom to faculty meetings. She truly embodied what it means to be an educator and mentor.”
In addition to her academic contributions, Professor Richter was a deeply compassionate mentor who prioritized the well-being and success of her students. Plans are underway to honor Professor Richter’s life and legacy with a campus memorial and a scholarship fund in her name to support history students—reflecting her lifelong dedication to education and student empowerment.
