MOBILE, Ala — The Mobile Police Department has identified the victim in Wednesday evening’s fatal incident at a convenience store on Schillinger Road as Sam Walker, 57. Authorities say the tragedy unfolded around 6:19 p.m. on October 8, 2025, when officers were dispatched to the Circle K located at 4880 Schillinger Road S. in reference to a report of a person being struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they discovered that the vehicle involved had fled the scene, with the victim reportedly trapped beneath it. Shortly afterward, police located the vehicle approximately two miles away, in the 4400 block of Dawes Lane East, where Sam Walker was found deceased near the vehicle.
Investigators determined that a confrontation between Walker and the suspect, Jacob Cross, 30, had escalated before Cross intentionally struck Walker with his car. Cross was later arrested and taken to Metro Jail, where he faces homicide charges.
Authorities closed off both scenes as detectives collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. The Mobile Police Department confirmed this remains an active investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available.
