MIAMI, FL — Authorities have identified the suspect involved in Thursday morning’s violent standoff that left two Miami police officers wounded as 27-year-old Mason Triana. The tense scene unfolded in the Allapattah neighborhood and ended with Triana found dead inside a residence.
According to Miami Police Chief Manny Morales, the incident began around 7:00 a.m. on October 9, 2025, when officers responded to reports of an abandoned vehicle near NW 15th Avenue and NW 26th Street. As they assessed the situation, a ShotSpotter alert signaled gunfire nearby. Soon after, officers discovered a second vehicle riddled with bullets.
Without warning, Triana opened fire, striking a male sergeant in the knee and a female officer in the ankle. Both were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where they are recovering and listed in stable condition. “They displayed incredible bravery and professionalism under fire,” Chief Morales stated.
Triana then barricaded himself inside a nearby home, prompting a massive SWAT response. Negotiations continued for several hours before officers found him deceased inside the residence. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Triana’s death was self-inflicted or the result of exchanged gunfire.
A second individual was detained for questioning as the investigation continues. Chief Morales emphasized that the quick, coordinated actions of police prevented further tragedy.
