Natchitoches Woman Killed in Tragic I-49 Crash

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA — A tragic collision late Friday night has claimed the life of 76-year-old Marie A. Lacour of Natchitoches, leaving a community in mourning and prompting renewed calls for driver awareness on Louisiana’s roads.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop E, the fatal crash occurred on July 11, 2025, at approximately 11:46 p.m. on Interstate 49, just north of Natchitoches. The preliminary investigation revealed that both vehicles involved—a 2015 Dodge Charger and a 2018 Cadillac XTS driven by Lacour—were traveling southbound on I-49.

For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge Charger failed to reduce speed and rear-ended Lacour’s Cadillac. The force of the impact caused Lacour’s vehicle to overturn, and she was ejected from the vehicle. Tragically, she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained severe injuries. She was transported to a local medical facility, where she was later pronounced dead.

The occupants of the Dodge Charger, none of whom were restrained, fortunately escaped without injuries. As standard procedure, toxicology samples have been taken and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the devastating consequences that can arise from distracted or inattentive driving, which remains a leading cause of traffic crashes in Louisiana. The Louisiana State Police continues to emphasize the importance of staying alert behind the wheel and the life-saving value of wearing seatbelts.

Marie A. Lacour is remembered as a cherished member of the Natchitoches community, and her sudden passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
