SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified the man killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night in Sumter County as 31-year-old Damien Waiters of Richland County.
According to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 261 North and Richbow Road. Emergency crews responded to the scene, where Waiters was found with serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
Waiters’ passing has left his family and community heartbroken as they mourn the loss of a life taken too soon. Friends remember him as a kind-hearted, hardworking, and loyal individual whose presence brightened every room he entered.
Officials ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol as the investigation continues.
