Speed Believed to Be a Factor in Fatal Mosheim Crash

MOSHEIM, Tenn. (October 13, 2025) – Authorities in Greene County are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a woman Monday morning on West Andrew Johnson Highway near Turning Hill Road in Mosheim.

According to the Mosheim Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. following reports of a serious crash with entrapment. Upon arrival, they found that a Toyota RAV4 had collided with the rear of a semi-truck that had slowed down due to another vehicle turning in front of it.

Investigators determined there were no skid marks at the scene, indicating that the driver of the Toyota had not applied her brakes before the impact. The driver, identified as Lisa Coffey, tragically died at the scene from her injuries.

Police believe distraction and excessive speed played significant roles in the deadly collision. The crash report stated, “It is believed that the victim was distracted and when she gained her attention to the highway, there was not any room for correction to avoid the collision.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and are reminding all drivers to stay alert and drive responsibly, as even a moment’s distraction can lead to a lifetime of loss.
