PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The Port Arthur Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Thursday morning, October 16, 2025, in the 2100 block of State Highway 87 heading toward Sabine Pass.

According to Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett, the crash happened around 4:15 a.m. and involved four vehicles. Authorities say a 23-year-old woman from Spring, Texas, was rear-ended during the collision and tragically died at the scene. Judge Burnett has ordered an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police temporarily shut down Highway 87 for several hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigators reconstructed the scene. The highway has since been reopened to traffic.

Details surrounding what led to the crash remain under investigation by the Port Arthur Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

The incident has left the Port Arthur community deeply saddened, with many expressing condolences to the victim’s family. Officials urge all drivers to remain alert and cautious on the roads, especially during early morning hours when visibility and fatigue can play a role in serious collisions.
