BAKERSFIELD, Calif — A tragic rollover crash early Thursday morning in Delano claimed the lives of two people and left another seriously injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

At approximately 12:28 a.m., CHP Bakersfield Area officers responded to reports of a crash on Woollomes Avenue, just west of Wallace Road. Investigators said a 21-year-old man was driving a black Acura eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the north edge of the road, striking several large metal poles and a wooden power pole before overturning.

Authorities said the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The front-seat passenger, identified as Andru Luque Felix, 19, of Delano, also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old female passenger in the rear seat suffered moderate to major injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.

CHP said it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. Both directions of Woollomes Avenue were closed for about three hours while officers investigated and cleared the scene.
