GREENE COUNTY, Ark  — Arkansas State Police have identified the victims killed in a tragic three-vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon on U.S. Highway 412 in Greene County.

According to a crash report, the collision happened around 4:35 p.m. on October 17. Three people were killed in the crash: Sherry Felty, of Paragould, and Duane Smith Jr. and Christine Sta Ana, both of Jonesboro.

Investigators said Bruce Owens of Paragould was driving a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe westbound behind a freightliner. At some point, Owens attempted to pass the freightliner, crossing into the center lane and then into oncoming traffic. As he moved back toward the eastbound lanes, the front of his vehicle collided head-on with a 2020 Jeep Renegade driven by Smith Jr.

The impact caused extensive damage, and the freightliner struck debris scattered across the roadway.

Felty, a passenger in Owens’ vehicle, was killed in the crash. Smith Jr. and Sta Ana, who were in the Jeep Renegade, also died at the scene.

Owens and a minor passenger traveling with Smith Jr. and Sta Ana were both injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

State police said the weather was clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the collision. The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
