HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Authorities have identified 58-year-old Steven Marks as the victim in a tragic crash that occurred Saturday morning in northwest Harris County. The fatal accident took place in the 11700 block of Antoine Drive, near West Greens Road, and involved a U.S. Postal Service vehicle and a pickup truck.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Steven Marks, a dedicated postal employee, was operating his mail truck when he was struck from behind by a speeding pickup. Marks was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.
Investigators say the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 48-year-old Jose Romero, had been involved in a minor collision moments earlier near Antoine and Veterans Memorial Drive. After fleeing that scene, Romero reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the rear of the postal truck.
Officers at the scene stated that Romero exhibited signs of intoxication and subsequently failed a field sobriety test. He was taken into custody, and the District Attorney’s Office has been notified to pursue charges of intoxication manslaughter.
Steven Marks is being remembered as a hardworking and kind-hearted man who faithfully served his community through his work with the postal service. His tragic death has left colleagues, family, and friends heartbroken. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
