FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A tragic wrong-way crash early Sunday morning claimed the life of a 26-year-old Aliquippa woman near Pittsburgh International Airport.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred around 1:18 a.m. on westbound I-376 near mile marker 54 in Findlay Township. Investigators say Summer Cartrette was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound in the westbound lanes when she collided head-on with another vehicle. Despite the severe impact, Cartrette’s vehicle continued traveling east before coming to rest in the center median.
Emergency crews quickly arrived on scene, and Cartrette was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were also hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
Authorities closed a section of the Parkway West for approximately four hours while troopers conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
The cause of the wrong-way driving remains under investigation as state police work to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike on the roadways — and how one wrong turn can have devastating consequences.
