CHICAGO, IL – A tragic act of gun violence claimed the life of 16-year-old David Mason Jr., affectionately known by many as “Lil Dave,” on Tuesday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded around 2:30 p.m. on October 21, 2025, to reports of a person shot near West End Avenue and Keeler Avenue. When officers arrived, witnesses informed them that the victim had already been transported to a hospital by someone at the scene.
Moments later, Mount Sinai Hospital reported receiving a teenage male gunshot victim who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and arms. Despite efforts by medical personnel, David was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
Investigators say David was standing on a sidewalk when gunfire erupted, striking him multiple times. At this time, it remains unclear whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle. No arrests have been made, and Area Four detectives continue to investigate the deadly shooting.
