CASEY COUNTY, KY — The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 is investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man Tuesday morning in Casey County.
According to KSP, the accident occurred on October 21, 2025, at approximately 7:24 a.m. EST along US 127 near the intersection with KY 501.
The preliminary investigation determined that John Gingerich, 20, of Liberty, was traveling northbound on US 127 in a horse-drawn wagon when a Kia Sedona, driven by Jacob Goodman, 33, of Columbia, approached from behind. The wagon reportedly lacked rear-facing lights and a slow-moving vehicle reflective placard, making it difficult to see in early morning light. Goodman did not notice the wagon in time and struck it from behind, resulting in a severe collision.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Gingerich to Casey County Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased by the Casey County Coroner. Goodman was not injured in the crash, though three juvenile passengers in his vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
KSP Post 15 was assisted at the scene by the Casey County Sheriff’s Office, Casey County EMS, Dunnville Fire Department, and the Casey County Coroner’s Office.
Detective Weston Sullivan is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
Authorities remind drivers to stay alert and cautious when traveling rural roads where slow-moving vehicles may be present, especially during early morning hours when visibility can be limited.
