LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas — A tragic single-vehicle crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Francisco Duran-Rascon of Idalou, Texas, on Tuesday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred around 6:14 p.m. near FM 400 and CR 7000. DPS said Duran-Rascon was traveling north on FM 400 when he left the roadway and entered a ditch east of the highway. In an attempt to correct his vehicle, it began to rotate and slide into a ditch west of FM 400, rolling before coming to rest.
Duran-Rascon was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Officials confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. DPS also noted that weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, but no further contributing factors have been reported at this time. The crash serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts and exercising caution on roadways.
