BESSEMER, Ala. — Family members have identified the pedestrian killed Tuesday evening in a tragic crash in Bessemer as Frank Horn, a longtime resident of the community.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the collision occurred around 6:46 p.m. in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue S.W. Police said Horn was walking along the roadway when he was struck by a passing vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived moments later and provided aid before transporting Horn to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m.
Family and friends described Horn as a kind and hardworking man who was well-known and loved in the Bessemer community. “He was a caring person who would help anyone in need,” a relative shared. “Our hearts are broken. We just want answers and justice for Frank.”
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Investigators with the Bessemer Police Department’s Traffic Division are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or impairment were factors.
Authorities have not announced any charges at this time.
Neighbors say the area where the crash occurred has poor lighting and frequent speeding issues. The incident has renewed calls for better pedestrian safety measures in the neighborhood.
Funeral arrangements for Frank Horn will be announced by the family in the coming days as the community mourns his sudden and tragic loss.
