Tragedy in Lexington: Beverly Gumm and Daughter Christina Combs Killed in Church Shooting Connected to Domestic Dispute

Lexington, KY — A horrifying sequence of events has left the city of Lexington reeling after a gunman opened fire at Richmond Road Baptist Church, killing 72-year-old Beverly Gumm and her 32-year-old daughter, Christina Combs, during a Sunday service. Authorities have identified the shooter as Guy E. House, who was fatally shot by law enforcement shortly after the incident.

The violence began earlier in the day at Blue Grass Airport, where House reportedly shot a Kentucky State Trooper, then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. From there, he traveled to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he entered the building and opened fire, killing Beverly and Christina in what officials are calling a targeted, domestic-related attack.

Tragically, Beverly’s husband — the church’s pastor — is believed to be connected to House through a prior marriage, adding an even more devastating layer to the motive behind the attack. The exact nature of their connection is still under investigation.

In addition to the fatal shootings of Beverly and Christina, two male victims were also shot during the incident. Their names and conditions have not been released at this time.

After the shooting at the church, law enforcement swiftly engaged House, who was killed by officers during a confrontation outside the premises. Authorities have praised the rapid response of first responders, which likely prevented further loss of life.

The community is mourning the loss of two beloved women. Beverly Gumm, known for her nurturing heart and presence at the church alongside her husband, and Christina Combs, remembered as vibrant, giving, and deeply involved in her faith community.

The church has since become a place of grieving and remembrance, with vigils and prayers pouring in from across the state. Lexington officials have urged the public to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

This tragic series of events has not only shaken a place of worship but has also underscored the far-reaching impact of domestic violence and the urgent need for community support and healing.
