DECATUR, Ill. — A 17-year-old, Tev Ots, has died following a shooting Friday night in Decatur, and a 19-year-old has been taken into custody as the Decatur Police Department continues its homicide investigation.
On October 24 at 10:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired at a business in the 1100 block of E Wood Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Tev Ots with at least one apparent gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Patrol officers quickly located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting, leading to the detention of a 19-year-old man at a residence connected to the suspect vehicle. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division processed evidence, collected video surveillance, and interviewed witnesses. Overnight, search warrants were executed at two Decatur residences as part of the ongoing investigation.
As a result, 19-year-old Nehemiah T. Meyers of Decatur was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He has been booked into the Macon County Jail.
While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains active, and detectives continue to follow leads. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 217-424-2734 or Crimestoppers at 217-423-8477.
This tragic event has left the Decatur community mourning the loss of Tev Ots, a young life taken far too soon.
