STARKS, SULPHUR, La — Tragedy struck Calcasieu Parish on Saturday as two separate traffic accidents claimed the lives of two men and left another person critically injured, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO).

The first fatal crash occurred in the early morning hours along Big Woods Starks Road near Creek Road. Deputies say 48-year-old Louis Pool of DeQuincy was traveling southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his pickup truck veered off the right side of the roadway. Pool reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll and exit the roadway to the left. Authorities said Pool was partially ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Later that evening, around 11 p.m., deputies responded to a second deadly accident on West Dave Dugas Road near Choupique Road in Sulphur. According to CPSO, 37-year-old Randall Ravia of Sulphur was operating a side-by-side utility vehicle when he attempted to make a turn. For reasons still unclear, the vehicle rolled over, ejecting both Ravia and his passenger. Ravia was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The passenger, whose identity has not been released, was also hospitalized and later transferred to another facility in critical but stable condition.

Both accidents remain under active investigation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, always wear seatbelts, and avoid distractions while driving.

These two devastating crashes have left the communities of DeQuincy and Sulphur mourning the loss of two lives taken far too soon. Family members, friends, and neighbors are coming together to support one another as investigators work to determine what led to the tragic incidents.
