ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. — Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a young man early Sunday morning.

Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 7:09 a.m. near the intersection of US-12 and Burr Oak Road, where 21-year-old Kayden Gruver was found unresponsive along a rural roadside. Emergency responders confirmed that Gruver had died at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Gruver was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene. Law enforcement officials believe the vehicle may be a 2007–2015 GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, likely showing front-end damage on the passenger side. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or the circumstances surrounding the crash to come forward.

Residents and businesses in the area are being asked to review any surveillance footage that may help identify the vehicle or its driver. The Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident, with assistance from Burr Oak Fire and Rescue, Life Care Ambulance, and the Michigan State Police.
