Gloucester County, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash that occurred early Thursday morning, October 23, 2025, at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Route 17, north of T.C. Walker Road.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound when it ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree in the median. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire.
The driver, 24-year-old Tyler M. Simmons of Hayes, Virginia, was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities reported that Simmons was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including factors that may have contributed to the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
