Louisville, KY — The city of Louisville is reeling after a tragic series of events in the Newburg neighborhood that left 45-year-old Tiffany Reiner and 20-year-old Frank Mejia Aguilar dead. The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has released new information identifying the officer involved in the shooting as Officer Hunter Weaver, who joined the department in 2023.
According to LMPD, officers were dispatched Monday afternoon to Ridgecrest Road near Rosette Boulevard following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they encountered Aguilar, who was reportedly armed and approaching them. Police say Aguilar ignored multiple commands to drop his weapon, prompting Officer Weaver to discharge his firearm. Aguilar was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier that same day, police received calls about another shooting nearby, where Tiffany Reiner had been critically injured. She was transported to UofL Health Hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have since linked Aguilar to that earlier shooting, which took place just before the confrontation with police.
Family members describe Reiner as a loving mother of three, a kind and nurturing woman who was celebrating a birthday with her family at the time of the tragedy. “She was the heart of our family,” one relative said. “Always smiling, always putting everyone else first. We’re shattered.”
Deputy Chief Emily McKinley confirmed that the department’s Public Integrity Unit has opened a full investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Body camera footage will be released within 10 business days in accordance with policy. “Transparency is vital in maintaining trust with our community,” McKinley stated.
Officer Weaver, who has received multiple commendations for service, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation — a standard procedure in such incidents.
Neighbors in the Newburg area expressed heartbreak over the violence, describing their community as typically peaceful. “It’s devastating,” said one local resident. “We’re praying for Tiffany’s family and for everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg offered condolences to Reiner’s loved ones, emphasizing the city’s commitment to a thorough and transparent review.
As the investigation continues, Reiner’s family and friends are remembering her not for the violence that took her life, but for the love, laughter, and strength she shared with everyone she knew. Her passing leaves a void that words cannot fill — a painful reminder of how fragile life can be.
Funeral and memorial arrangements for Tiffany Reiner will be shared by her family in the coming days.
“She was our everything,” her family said in a statement. “We will love her forever, and we will never stop seeking peace and understanding in her memory.”
