OVERLAND PARK, Kan  — The Overland Park Police Department has identified the pedestrian killed in an early morning crash as 68-year-old Janet Dam of Overland Park.

The incident occurred around 3:29 a.m. Tuesday on Goddard Street, just west of Switzer Road. According to investigators, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Goddard Street struck a parked car on the westbound side of the road before continuing forward and hitting a pedestrian walking along the edge of the roadway. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a tree.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, where the pedestrian, identified as Dam, was pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Authorities say Dam was a local resident who was known to walk in the area during early morning hours. The investigation into what caused the vehicle to leave its lane and strike the pedestrian remains ongoing.

The Overland Park Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact the Traffic Unit at 913-327-6731.
