COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating the death of a 64-year-old inmate at the Columbia County Jail.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, James Michael Millard was discovered during the morning count on Friday, October 31, 2025. Deputies and medical personnel immediately attempted life-saving measures, but Millard was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Because this is an in-custody death, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will lead the investigation. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said that all inquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to FDLE.
Millard had been booked into the Columbia County Jail on October 9 for violating his probation, according to deputies.
