BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A tragic shooting took the life of a 16-year-old boy on Saturday night in Brooklyn, according to the New York City Police Department. The deadly incident has left the community mourning and police searching for answers.

Authorities say officers responded around 8:47 p.m. on November 1 to a 911 call reporting an assault at 1196 Eastern Parkway, within the 71st Precinct. When police arrived, they discovered the victim, identified as 16-year-old Tyson Harps, of Park Avenue in the Bronx, lying unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency medical services pronounced Harps dead at the scene. His death has sent shockwaves through both Brooklyn and the Bronx, where loved ones remember him as a bright, kindhearted teen with a promising future.

Neighbors in the area expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence affecting young people across the city. “He was just a kid,” one resident said. “It’s heartbreaking to see another young life taken so senselessly.”

Detectives are now working to determine what led to the shooting and who was responsible. At this time, no arrests have been made, and police have not released details about possible suspects or motives.

The NYPD’s Crime Scene Unit and Major Case Squad continue to investigate, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses in the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or visit crimestoppers.nypdonline.org. Tips may also be submitted confidentially via the NYPD’s mobile app.

As the investigation continues, Tyson Harps’s family and community are left grieving the devastating loss of a young life filled with potential — a life that ended far too soon.
