Strongsville, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting that claimed the life of 49-year-old Gina Guyer of Strongsville on Halloween night, in what police describe as a domestic-related incident.
According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, officers responded to a home in the 22400 block of Rock Creek Circle just after 8 p.m. on Thursday following reports of shots fired. When police arrived, they discovered Guyer had been shot and the suspected gunman, 74-year-old Gene Tomcho of North Ridgeville, was still inside the home holding a handgun.
Officers said they repeatedly ordered Tomcho to drop the weapon, but he turned the gun on himself before they could intervene. Emergency medical personnel arrived and transported both Guyer and Tomcho to MetroHealth Medical Center, where Guyer was pronounced dead from her injuries.
Tomcho survived and remains hospitalized under police supervision. He has been charged with felonious assault and murder, and additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Strongsville Police emphasized that this was an isolated incident involving family members and that there is no danger to the public.
This heartbreaking event has left the community shaken as friends and neighbors remember Gina Guyer as a kind and caring woman whose life was taken far too soon. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and expect to release further details in the coming days.
