CHICAGO, Ill. (WGN) — A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Archer Heights community after 17-year-old Rodrigo Franco was fatally shot while working inside a Burger King on Chicago’s Southwest Side Sunday evening.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting occurred just after 7 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Pulaski Road. Rodrigo was working inside the restaurant when someone in a Jeep pulled up and opened fire, striking him in the head.

First responders rushed Rodrigo to Mount Sinai Hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities identified the victim Monday morning as Rodrigo Franco, a hardworking teenager who was simply doing his job when his life was taken in an act of senseless violence.

Rodrigo’s mother shared with WGN News that her son was full of life and love. He enjoyed playing soccer, video games, and sharing coffee with her in the mornings — special moments she now holds close to her heart. She described him as a kind and joyful young man who dreamed of building a better future for himself and his family.

Police said the shooter fled the scene in an unknown direction, and no arrests have been made. Investigators are urging anyone with information to submit anonymous tips at cpdtip.com as they continue searching for the person responsible for this tragic loss.

Rodrigo’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community heartbroken. He will be remembered as a loving son, a dedicated worker, and a young man with a bright future ahead of him — one that was taken far too soon.

Rest in peace, Rodrigo Franco. Your warmth, kindness, and light will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved you.
