Fatal Crash on Highway 238 in Josephine County

Josephine County, OR — Oregon State Police are investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning, November 3, 2025, on Highway 238 near milepost 8.

According to preliminary reports, a westbound Subaru Impreza, driven by 21-year-old Alexander Ray Yager of Grants Pass, failed to navigate a curve, left the roadway, struck a power pole, and rolled several times before catching fire. Yager, the vehicle’s operator, was able to escape and was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Tragically, a passenger in the vehicle, 36-year-old Jacob Dean Mix, also of Grants Pass, did not escape and was declared deceased at the scene.

Oregon State Police noted that speed and impairment are considered primary factors in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing. The roadway was closed for approximately eight hours while authorities conducted on-scene investigations and cleared the area.

The loss of Jacob Dean Mix has left family, friends, and the community in shock and mourning. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Oregon State Police.

This tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers of impaired or unsafe driving and the importance of exercising caution on the road.
