COPIAGUE, N.Y. — The Suffolk County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 69-year-old Louis Lasusa, who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on Wednesday night. Authorities say the tragedy occurred shortly before 9 p.m. along Montauk Highway in Copiague.

According to Suffolk County Police, Louis was walking north across Montauk Highway when he was struck by a westbound gray sedan that continued traveling without stopping. Emergency responders arrived quickly and did all they could to save him, but sadly, Louis did not survive his injuries.

The driver fled the scene, prompting detectives from the Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit to launch an active investigation.
