Cleveland, Ohio – Tragedy has struck the Akron community after 18-year-old Elijah Wells succumbed to his injuries Thursday, days after being shot during a mass shooting at an Airbnb in Bath Township last weekend.

According to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, Wells died from multiple gunshot wounds sustained during the shooting, which occurred early Sunday morning at a home on 933 Top of the Hill Drive. The incident unfolded during a large birthday party that had been promoted on social media, drawing a crowd of young people between the ages of 15 and 20.

Authorities said at least nine victims were struck by gunfire when multiple shooters opened fire at the gathering. Bath Township Police Chief Vito Sinopoli stated that as many as four different guns may have been used during the attack, and body camera footage captured one officer noting that “probably hundreds” of people were inside the home at the time.

Wells’ mother, Alicia Wells, shared heartbreaking updates on social media as her son fought for his life. On Monday, she wrote that doctors had to force air into his lungs and that he was on life support. By Wednesday, she delivered a devastating update: “There’s no signs of life in my son.”

Three of the nine victims have since been released from the hospital, while investigators continue searching for those responsible. Chief Sinopoli emphasized that “no community is immune to violence” and vowed to bring justice to the victims and their families.

Records show the $1.2 million home, owned by Michael D. Jones of Henderson, Nevada, had been illegally rented out as an Airbnb, despite township zoning laws prohibiting such rentals.

The loss of Elijah Wells has left family, friends, and the Akron community shattered. Loved ones describe him as a bright, caring young man whose life was just beginning.

Rest in peace, Elijah Wells. May your family find strength and justice in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy.
