HILTON, N.Y — Friends and family are mourning the loss of Rob Faber, a longtime construction worker and beloved friend, who was tragically struck and killed by a car Wednesday while working in Hilton.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at the intersection of Parma Center Road and Bailey Road. Faber was serving as a flagger, managing traffic in a work zone, when he was hit. He was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and later died.
Faber’s friends describe him as a man who cared deeply for everyone around him. “I lost my breath. I was keeping hope and praying that everything was going to be okay,” said Erik Basuk, a friend of more than 30 years. “He’s the type of guy that’ll give you the shirt off his back. It’s very, very unfortunate to have to stand here and have to give this speech today.”
Another close friend, Chazz Dalberth, remembered Faber as “a ride or die type of guy to a lot of people.” He added, “He was my best friend, and everybody you talk to, they’re like he was my best friend. He wanted to make sure his people, his crew, everyone was safe, sound, and taken care of.”
Faber’s death is a sobering reminder to drivers to slow down and move over for road workers. “He was just doing his job, and he wanted to come home to have a Thanksgiving with his mother,” Basuk said. “It’s very unfortunate that somebody had to take that from his family.”
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the investigation remains active, and no charges have been filed. The intersection has since reopened to traffic.
Rob Faber will be remembered for his generosity, dedication, and the care he showed to everyone around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and loyalty will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
