Brampton, Ontario –The Brampton community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 20-year-old Kourtney Khan, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating crash early Saturday morning. Authorities in Peel Region confirmed that Kourtney’s body was discovered hours later inside a wrecked vehicle at a tow yard, following a fatal two-vehicle collision near Queen Street and Chinguacousy Road in Brampton.
The crash occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, involving a Honda Civic and another vehicle driven by a 17-year-old. When first responders arrived, they found the driver of the Honda Civic, 31-year-old Sukhdev Singh, deceased at the scene. Singh, a devoted husband and father to a baby girl, had been driving for Lyft that night. At the time, police believed he was the only victim.
Hours later, Kourtney’s family reported her missing after being unable to reach her. Using a phone tracking app, her last known location pointed to the crash site. When officers revisited the impound yard, they made the tragic discovery — Kourtney’s body was found still inside the crushed back seat of the Honda Civic, more than 12 hours after the accident.
Emergency crews returned to the scene to carefully remove her remains from the mangled vehicle. Peel Regional Police have since launched an internal review to determine how Kourtney’s body went unnoticed during the initial investigation.
The 17-year-old driver involved has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and failing or refusing to comply with a demand for testing. Their identity remains protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Both Kourtney and Sukhdev’s deaths have left an immeasurable void in the hearts of their families and friends. Kourtney was remembered as a kind-hearted, bright young woman whose life overflowed with potential. Friends described her as loving, compassionate, and full of joy — someone who brought light to everyone around her.
A Lyft spokesperson expressed condolences to both grieving families, stating, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the driver and rider.”
As investigations continue, the community is left grappling with sorrow, disbelief, and unanswered questions about how such an oversight could happen.
